Fun Fin Orchestra
An educational project in the form of an interactive game-piece designed to introduce young/non-specialised audiences to collective musical improvisation through a live videogame/concert format.
In collaboration with Emilio Parrilla.
Developed using TouchDesigner and Unreal Engine.
2023-ongoing.
Fun Fin Orchestra is interdisciplinary educational project that covers interactive technologies, visual art and music areas, using videogames as an expressive medium to teach collective and free improvisation. It was premiered in 2023 at the American School in The Hague, has been performed in multiple sites in Delft, Rotterdam and Granada, and it’s in ongoing development. Emilio Parrilla is in charge of the pedagogy and Guillermo Martín-Viana takes care of the software development, sound processing and technical areas. At the moment it features four different scenes in a 3D underwater environment built in Unreal Engine. Live audio signals from the players’ instruments are processed in realtime in TouchDesigner, and then sent via OSC to UE.
Our focus is on using sound-based improvisation as a teaching methodology while making contemporary art forms accessible to non-specialised audiences. This modular project adapts to the needs of each educational institution, cultural venue or hosting space. The audience and the participants take part in a truly authentic, innovative and interdisciplinary learning experience.
