Nephsye° was a work-in-progress performance I produced at 3TreesCeramics, result of a research around the sonic and visual possibilities of ceramic works. Together with Carlos Ema and Joris Jan Bos, we presented three audiovisual pieces.
The first one involved the “clicks” of glazed ceramic pieces which were taken out of the oven slightly earlier than advised. We amplified those click sounds and used the audio data to drive the visuals.
The second piece involved using specially made ceramic bowls as a ringing organ, through a carefully designed feedback system with contact mics and transducers.
The third piece was an improvisation using some of the previous elements, plus live electronics, percussion and live throwing on the wheel.
For the projections, I mapped Joris’ curved vertical photography screen with two projectors, which gave a beautiful inmersive feeling to the generative ceramic-like projected textures.
